Christine Chavez was resting in Beard Brook Park when she was run over by a tractor with a pull-behind lawnmower.

Police said that the employee did not see the homeless mother until he “noticed a body in the grass he had already made a pass through,” the New York Post reported.

The worker immediately called 911 but Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her heartbroken family said that their grief worsened after finding the mother’s remains.

Speaking to Fox 40, Chavez’s sister Rosalinda said: “We have to go see the place because we wanted some kind of closure, and to be right there, looking at the ground, and then all of a sudden, seeing chunks of her, is horrible.

“Even when they go and pick up a dog from the street they take more time.”

Chavez’s devastated father, Christopher, also said that he saw fragments of his daughter in the area days after her tragic death.

The family claimed that the clean-up was not handled properly because the 27-year-old mother was homeless.

Chaviz’s brother, Randy, also said: “She didn’t deserve that for that reason, for being homeless. My sister was loved. The only thing she wanted was to be free.

“We want ordinances to change so it doesn’t happen again. Regardless if they are homeless they are still people and should be treated the same as any other people.”

According to the Modeste Bee, Chavez often slept in the 12-acre park as it was once an authorized camping site for homeless people.

The day before the mother’s tragic death, the park was officially acquired by E&J Gallo Winery.

Other homeless people said they saw Chavez wash her hair in the creek before gong to a hill near the baseball field and playground to sleep less than half an hour before the worker came to the area with a lawnmower.
