The grieving family of a 3-year-old boy who tragically died after being attacked by a dog has paid a tribute to their ‘happy, kind, and caring little boy’.
Daniel Twigg was outside a property at Carr Lane, Milnrow, Rochdale on Sunday afternoon when he was attacked by a dog.
The child was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to police, they have put down a Cane Corso breed dog and took the others.
Daniel was a “happy, kind and caring little boy who was loved by all who knew him,” his family wrote in a Facebook post, which was later shared by Greater Manchester Police.
“He loved Paw Patrol and playing with his brother and sister, he also loved being around animals – especially his pony, Splash,” his loved ones continued.
“He brought us many laughs and was a comical character. He was brave, intelligent and full of many characteristics.
“Daniel loved being with his whole family and will be missed by all. On behalf of our family, we ask people to respect our privacy.”
The 48-year-old dog owner has been arrested over the young boy’s tragic death. Photos of the property showed ‘beware of the dog’ signs around the property.
Because of another incident, Greater Manchester Police’s Professional Standards Branch referred the case for review by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
According to reports, a dog attacked two female walkers and left one with serious injuries.
Kia Walker, 17, said the dogs escaped from the property and attacked her. “I didn’t drop the investigation,” she told Mail Online. “I was told there wasn’t enough evidence.”
When she asked if they could do anything else, she was told that there were none as there was not enough evidence to support her claims.
Her relative also said: “The dogs have charged towards her and ripped her arm. It traumatized her. Her arm was in two.”
A criminal investigation has been launched after the dog attacked the young boy, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.
