Thomas Henry, an injury attorney representing the families, said they were seeking damages for a student who was hit in the face, one who was shot in the shoulder, one who was struck in the leg, and another who was hit in the shoulder, leg and back by shooter Salvador Ramos, according to Fox News.

They are accusing Ramos of intentional infliction of emotional distress and malice, and assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

The lawsuit names Adriana Reyes, the mother of Ramos, as a potential defendant as the 18-year-old gunman – who was shot by law enforcement – doesn’t have an official representation over his estate.

“This initial lawsuit will allow us to discover evidence and possibly add other parties to the lawsuit, if necessary,” Henry said in a statement.

He added: “The discovery process will focus on the school system, law enforcement, social media, and gun and ammunition manufacturers.”

According to reports, at least 17 other students and adults were injured after the massacre.

The injury attorney also said that the family would explore possible legal action against “all responsible parties for possible constitutional rights violations, gun law violations, and violations of laws, policies, and procedures pertaining to school safety.”
