Adan Canto has passed away at the age of just 42 after a brief health battle.
The Mexican-American actor, who was best known for playing Vice President-elect Aaron Shore in the hit drama series Designated Survivor, died on Monday after a battle with appendiceal cancer.
Besides his work on three seasons of Designated Survivor, Canto also appeared in the likes of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Bruised, Agent Game, Narcos, and most recently The Cleaning Lady.
The sad news was confirmed by the actor’s representative who wrote: “Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever. He will be greatly missed by so many.”
Tributes to the young man have since begun pouring in with Fox and WBTV – the network and the studio heading The Cleaning Lady – remembered Canto for his powerful performance.
“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Adan Canto. A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in The Following more than a decade ago,” their statement read.
“Most recently, he lit up the screen in The Cleaning Lady with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth and vulnerability. This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones. We will miss Adan dearly.”
Adan, who in the past wanted to become a musician, previously told Collider how he never even considered becoming an actor back when he was a child.
“That’s what I had been doing, for a huge part of my life.
But music, in Mexico, just wasn’t working out.
So, I fell into acting and I just fell in love with it. It was amazing! It was a great safe place to just vent. And then, I found out that I could actually do this and I saw a future in it,” he said in 2013 after securing his first major role in The Following.“Everything I’ve always been interested in, I could apply it, in this area. So, I just fell into it, and it worked out.”
Adan is survived by his wife Stephanie Ann Canto and their two young children. Our thoughts remain with his loved ones during this challenging time.
