Johnny Depp’s lawyers took a jab at Amber Heard as it was finally her turn to take the stand in the Virginia courthouse and be cross-examined.
Depp’s legal team repeatedly challenged Heard’s allegations of beatings by sharing photos of the actress looking flawless just hours or days after the alleged physical altercations with her ex-husband took place.
Among them was December 2015 footage showing Amber Heard on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
While the actress previously testified that Johnny gave her two black eyes, a split lip, and what she thought to be a broken nose on the night before her appearance on James Corden’s show, Heard seemed like she was in a perfect condition as she appeared on the show less than a day after the alleged attack during which she feared she would die from her injuries.point 431 | 1
Fighting back at Depp’s legal team, Heard told the court that she managed to bring down the swelling using ice just in time for the show. She also argued that “super heavy, red matte lipstick” was used to cover her broken lip.
“I got worried that I wouldn’t be able to hide the bruising and swelling. I iced it all night and the next day checked in the mirror to see if I could get away with it, meaning hiding it, so I could make an appearance,” Heard said.
“I gambled and thought maybe I could pull it off, I had my hair and makeup team come. They worked around it, meaning worked around the lesions on my head with the hair spray because that stings. They worked around the bruising by covering it with heavy makeup, heavier makeup than normal bruise covering makeup.
“I remember my lip was still bleeding and swollen so we did this really thick super heavy matte red lipstick and I remember very well at the time that we had no choice in color, and that was one of my favorite colors to wear. On this occasion we had no choice because we had to hide my busted lip.”
The court was then also shown photos from the 2015 premiere of Depp’s movie Mortdecai in Tokyo.
As Heard earlier testified, Depp beat her up in their hotel just moments before the premiere.
“I managed to get out of his grasp to take a few steps and went into the closet. By the time I made it in he had me by the hair. It felt like he was wailing me in a sloppy way and wrestled me to the floor. I didn’t have a fair shot, I was walking away from him,” she said.
“I didn’t see it coming he wrestled me down to the ground. He was really screaming, loud. I remember trying to get up and him wrestling me down and he put his knee on my back and I had this struggle with him and I look at him and he’s still got his glasses on. I remember thinking he looked like he hadn’t been through anything.”
In the pictures shown at the court by Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez, however, no injuries, marks, or bruises were to be seen on Heard’s body or face during the premiere.
Heard admitted she could not see any visible marks in the photos shown by Depp’s team.
The court was also shown a photo of Depp and Heard at an event for his movie The Lone Ranger in 2013. While she previously insisted Depp had assaulted her prior to the event, Heard was forced to admit she couldn’t see any signs of injuries on her face in the photos presented.
Another alleged incident took place after the 2014 Met Gala when Depp assaulted Heard and broke her nose according to the actress.
Photos from the following night, however, show Amber in a flawless condition with no visible marks or swelling.
“You should see what it looked like under the makeup,” Heard told the court as she was grilled by Depp’s attorney.
