A recent flight of British Airways turned out to be mid-air terror for one mother and daughter after the latter suffered an intense nut allergy.
According to local media reports, the teenage girl had a severe nut allergy that kicked in when the plane was 30,000 feet in the air. The passenger is believed to have blacked out and needed immediate oxygen therapy as well as two shots of epinephrine to bring them back to normal, sources revealed.
The incident is believed to have taken place when a fellow passenger opened up a packet of peanuts.
39-year-old Joanna Jones says her plane was on its way to London when the terror struck, leaving her 14-year-old girl named Poppy in a dangerous health condition that she couldn’t have ever imagined.
The mother called the eight-hour-long flight her worst nightmare come true. Moreover, she says that she has never ever seen her child in this state before and that is what really made it more frightening for her during the eight-hour-long journey from Antigua to London.
Thankfully, there happened to be a quick-thinking nurse on board who rushed in to help. During that time, the pilot of the plane was considering making an emergency landing, explained reports.
The captain did manage to make a landing at Gatwick and that’s when the child was rushed to the hospital.
The mother recalls the incident as a nightmare or a scare. But most importantly, she says it was all due to a fellow passenger consuming nuts despite two announcements being made to him to avoid indulging in the act.
“When we first boarded, the crew requested all the passengers not to consume peanuts as my daughter had a severe allergy to them. But then all of a sudden, a man who happened to be ten rows ahead started munching on them and that is what triggered the biggest health scare”- the mother explained.
