A mother is sharing her utter heartbreak and devastation after her toddler son nearly died after consuming one of the most common snacks out there today.
The mom says she nearly suffered the consequences of a fatal mistake in the form of giving her child his favorite snack. But no more because she’s learned her lesson the hard way.
For starters, the mother wants other parents to know that learning about how to perform first aid on young kids is the first thing they should do because that’s what ended up saving her young child’s life.
Next, she wants them to know that some snacks are not good or safe for toddlers. And that includes apple slices.
Ashlie Johnson says she thought it would be a great healthy way to have her child eat snacks but no, that’s not the case.
He almost choked to his death while eating just that and it’s a mistake she wishes can serve as awareness for others making the same fatal mistake.
“I never knew such a healthy snack would end up nearly costing his life. It’s just hard to think about all of this”- the mother cried.
Little Declan was rushed by paramedics to a nearby hospital after the mom called for help. She says the 2-year-old happened to be watching television and chomping down on his snack. She made sure they were bite-sized but still, the horror unfolded before her eyes.
The mother of four who hails from Australia adds that she became aware that something was very wrong when she heard him let out a horrifying scream. His face became bright red and he started coughing frantically and couldn’t breathe. And that’s when he went blue.
Both parents didn’t have any first aid certificates but they did see the actions of others perform them and used their instincts to save their child by forcing him to cough up the piece of fruit that was stuck.
