A medical chopper transporting a sick baby to a children’s hospital crashed in front of a church in Philadelphia, leaving all four people on board injured.
The helicopter crashed outside Drexel Hill United Methodist Church on Burmont Road, leaving the baby and three others injured.
Fortunately, no other people got injured by the chopper even though it landed in a residential area, about half a mile from a school and a block away from local restaurants.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt told reporters: “It’s an absolute miracle. It’s an absolute miracle on Burmont Road. That’s what it is.”
State Representative Mike Zabel also took to Twitter and wrote: “An absolute miracle in Drexel Hill tday.”
Upper Darby Fire Chief Derrick Sawyer called the incident a ‘miraculous landing,’ saying that the community was ‘truly blessed’ by the result.
A resident who was outside with his family said he was left frozen when the chopper suddenly appeared to fall above them.
Speaking to CBS Philadelphia, Joshua James said: “I was actually frozen for a second when that happened because I was just looking at a helicopter.
“It’s no way to explain it. It almost feels like something from Game of Thrones, you see a dragon coming at your car because it was literally in the sky, a huge object coming toward you. It was insane.”
Jarrell Saunders, another witness, told ABC News that he noticed the medical chopper was in trouble before it crashed.
“It was ‘just floating, like real low, like extremely low, like it could land on the building that I work at.”
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of the crash.
“Our team will cooperate fully with their efforts to assess the cause of this unfortunate accident,” the statement said.
“Privacy rights with regards to those on board the aircraft will be honored, and we will not be sharing any additional information.”
