At least six people died as a result of a massive collision at a Los Angeles intersection.
On Thursday afternoon, at 1.40 pm, a car ran a red light while speeding and crashed into five vehicles at an intersection in the Windsor Hills district.
According to the reports, the massive collision that resulted in a huge fireball took place at the intersection of Slauson Avenue and South La Brea Avenue.
The horrific moment a speeding Mercedes crashed into the column of vehicles was caught on camera and serves as proof that the driver ran a red light and drove at great speed before causing the crash without even as much as attempting to slow down.
As a result of the collision, six people were pronounced dead.
Among the six deceased were three adults, a pregnant woman and her unborn child, and one infant.
An additional nine people suffered serious injuries in the crash. Six of the victims were young children and teenagers.
It is believed that the driver of the Mercedes that caused the accident survived the incident and was taken to the hospital along with the victims.
According to the reports, at least three vehicles burst into flames after the Mercedes plowed into the vehicles on the tightly-packed highway.
Following the incident, California Highway Patrol closed off the road and compared the scene of the crash to a war zone.
“It looked like the whole intersection from corner to corner was on fire. A lot of sparks and electricity,” one witness, Harper Washington, said in an interview with ABC 7.
“I was under the impression that, really at first I thought they dropped a bomb on us. I thought another world war had started. Then I realized it was a car into the sign.”
She continued: “Once the fire went away and the booming left, I realized it was two cars there. You could see the people on fire and that’s just sad.
“I really pray for the people and the community.”
The crash remains under investigation. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families.
