32-year-old Roberta Drury was a bright and cheerful young lady who was killed by 18-year-old Peyton Gendron during his shooting spree at Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, New York.

On May 14, the teenage mass shooter opened fire at the supermarket and meticulously killed ten people and injured three more in the process.

During the tear-jerking funeral ceremony, the young lady was remembered for her unconditional love for other people, her determination and high spirit, and “most of all that smile that could light up a room.”

“There are no words to fully express the depth and breadth of this tragedy,” parochial vicar Nicholas Spano expressed during the service at Assumption Church in Syracuse.

“Last Saturday, May 14, our corner of the world was changed forever. Lives ended, dreams shattered and our state was plunged into mourning.”

“She was that light that shone through whatever darkness might have been present,” Spano added before saying that Drury would be remembered for her “love for family and friends, her perseverance, her tenacity, and most of all, that smile that could light up a room.”

Paying a tribute to the 32-year-old was also Roberta’s sister, Amanda, who told The Associated Press that “Robbie always made a big deal about someone when she saw them, always making sure they felt noticed and loved.”

It has since the horrific attack come to light that Gendron detailed his plans for the mass shooting on hundreds of pages he had shared online moments before the shooting.

It is believed that the shooter’s motives were racist and that he targeted Buffalo – rather than Rochester as he previously planned – after finding out it has a large population of people of color.

According to the reports, 11 out of 13 people Gendron had shot were Black.

Following his initial court appearance, the shooter entered a ‘not guilty’ plea.
