Brian Laundrie’s disturbing notes have been released along with his murder confession.
23-year-old Brian Laundrie sent law enforcement across the nation on a massive manhunt after vanishing shortly after his girlfriend and fiancée, 22-year-old Gabby Petito, went missing.
Petito’s body was later found at Grand Teton National Park and an autopsy confirmed she died of homicide by strangulation, whereas Laundrie remained the police’s prime suspect in the weeks that followed.
Laundrie was eventually declared dead after his remains were found at Carlton Reserve in Florida.
Now, the Laundrie family’s attorney, Steve Bertolino, released eight pages worth of Brian’s personal notes that offer a fresh twist on the blockbuster murder case.
In the notes, Laundrie argued that he killed Gabby out of mercy after she suffered injuries and “extreme pain” as a result of her fall at Grand Teton National Park.
“I wish I could be at your side, I wish I could be talking to you right now,” the 23-year-old began in the water-logged pages of his diary as he referred to Gabby.
He went on to say her health began degrading and that she kept on shivering from the constant cold after falling in a creek.
“I don’t know the extent of Gabby’s injuries, only that she was in extreme pain,” Brian wrote.
“I ended her life. I thought it was merciful, that it is what she wanted, but I see now all the mistake that I made. I panicked. I was in shock. But from the moment I decided, took away her pain.”
Concluding his notes, Laundrie apologized to Gabby’s family and revealed he decided to end his life after doing the wrong thing and realizing that he “couldn’t go on without her.”
“I have killed myself by this creek in the hope that animals may tear me apart that it might make some of her family happy,” Laundrie said.
