Brian Laundrie admitted to killing his girlfriend and fiancée during their cross-country trip in a chilling note, authorities revealed.
The 23-year-old man was found dead in a Florida swamp after a six-week manhunt following the disappearance of Gabby Petito who was killed by strangulation.
“On October 20, 2021 at approximately 0820 hours, search groups found a backpack and shoes that were identified as belonging to Brian Laundrie,” the complete autopsy report that was finally released after months of anticipation reads.
The report also states that Laundrie’s personal belongings were surrounded by “apparent skeletal human remains” after the young man’s body was scavenged by wild animals.
As the 47-page report explains, the fugitive must have been subjected to “moderately extensive carnivore activity evidenced by multiple gouging and gnawing marks” after taking his own life by putting a gun to his head.
“These areas are consistent with carnivores and/or omnivores including canines such as feral dogs and coyotes along with rodents and raccoons,” the papers read.
According to the official document, Laundrie also left behind a chilling note in which he admitted to Gabby Petito’s murder and confessed to taking her life sometime during their travels.
The note was found inside Laundrie’s journal which was hidden in a wooden box found in a dry bag that was recovered from the scene.
“The skeletal remains and personal effects were in plain sight and scattered upon the dirt ground,” the report reads.
Along with his personal belongings, the authorities allegedly managed to recover the majority of the man’s skeleton.
A toxicology report furthermore confirmed that there was no sign that Laundrie used drugs prior to his death.
