A 16-year-old boy has passed away after being shot in the chest by his friends while the trio was playing with a handgun and bulletproof vests.
Christopher Leroy Broad Jr., 16, succumbed to his gunshot wounds after being gunned down by one of his friends at a property in Belleview, Florida.
After the police arrived at the scene, Broad Jr. was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Joshua Vining, 17, and Colton Whitler, 17, were since arrested in connection to their friend’s death. Vining has been charged with aggravated manslaughter while Whitler is facing a charge of providing false information to law enforcement. Both teens will be charged as adults.
It has since the tragic incident come to light that the trio was taking turns wearing bulletproof vests and shooting each other while the fourth friend, 18-year-old Evan Vowell, was recording them.
According to Vowell, Vining started the deadly ‘game’ after bringing out bulletproof vests and a handgun.
“Has anyone ever seen anyone get shot with a bulletproof vest on?” the 17-year-old allegedly said in the opening of the clip that has since been submitted to the police.
The video continues with Broad Jr. shooting Vining in his body armor while Whilter watches on. Broad Jr. then takes Vining’s place, puts on the vest, and gets shot by Vining.
Following an approving nod from Broad Jr., Vining takes four more shots at the 16-year-old, fatally injuring him in the process.
After the teenager was wounded, Whitler allegedly claimed that his “house just got shot up, my friend got shot in the chest.” He also insisted Vowell was the one to shoot Broad Jr. despite evidence revealing this was not the case.
The case remains under investigation. As of this writing, it is not clear how the teenagers obtained the bulletproof vests and the handgun.
