A high school boy has passed away just three days after being struck by a truck while crossing a road.
14-year-old Levi Hanna was just a hundred yards away from his home in Canina, Queensland, when he was hit by a Hyundai i30 while attempting to cross the road on Wednesday.
According to the reports, the incident took place just moments after the young boy and his sister, Scarlett, exited a school bus.
After her brother was hit by the truck, the brave girl dropped her bag and ran onto the road to stop the traffic and protect her brother.
Though Levi was immediately rushed to the hospital for his life-threatening injuries, he sadly succumbed to his condition three days after the collision.
“Levi, our gorgeous baby boy, has already left us in one way, but his heart is still going,” the boy’s family said in a GoFundMe post on Saturday.
“It’s not how my warrior boy would want to be so at 7.14 pm tonight we are going to let his soul be free, so he can fish forever.”
The tear-jerking statement added: “His little sisters know he will go to sleep and become a star in the sky for all of us to look at.”
The GoFundMe page, which has been disabled after raising over $20,000 for funeral expenses, went on to thank the family’s supporters.
“We know now that right when the car hit him, part of him was already gone, the miracle was we all got to say goodbye,” the boy’s stepmom, Petrina Hanna, added.
