After her death at the age of 83, thousands of fans and entertainment figures alike stormed social media to pay the singer a tribute and remember her as one of the most successful performers of all time.

Meanwhile, fans of the musician took the opportunity to bring attention to the offensive lyrics sung by rapper Jay-Z in his wife Beyoncé’s superhit ‘Drunk In Love.’

In the song, Jay-Z raps the following verse: “I’m Ike, Turner, turn up / Baby no I don’t play / Now eat the cake, Anna Mae / I said eat the cake, Anna Mae.”

The “vile” lyrics serve as a reference to the disturbing scene from Tina Turner’s biopic – What’s Love Got to Do With It – featuring Angela Bassett as Tina/Anna Mae and Lawrence Fishburne as Ike Turner.

In the scene, Tina’s ex-husband forced the singer to eat the cake he had bought after getting jealous because she got more attention and requests for autographs than him when they were out in a diner.

Ike’s abusive behavior sparked a verbal commotion that ended with Tina being grappled and having the cake smeared over her face.

The lyrics of the 2013 song by Beyoncé featuring Jay-Z has now sparked fury among the late rocker’s fans who said it was vile of the power couple to make light of the abuse Turner has suffered at the hands of her ex-husband.

“I’ll never forgive Jay-Z for that particular line in Drunk in love. So tacky. Vile. Inappropriate. Even more disappointing that Beyoncé give it the green light and allowed it on her album,” someone said.

“This video makes it even more disappointing that Jay Z disrespected Tina Turner & made light of her abuse on Drunk in Love. They both should’ve known better than that,” another fumed.

A third wrote: “I keep thinking about how disrespectful it was for Jay-Z and Beyonce to have that ‘Drunk in Love’ lyric making fun of Tina Turner’s abuse from Ike.”

Tina previously opened up about her relationship with Ike and admitted that the marriage was filled with violence and beatings initiated by her “unpredictable” husband.

“What had been ugly and hateful between us before became worse with every snort of cocaine. He threw hot coffee in my face, giving me third-degree burns. He used my nose as a punching bag so many times that I could taste blood running down my throat when I sang,” she said.

In her account for the documentary TINA, she added: “It wasn’t a good life. The good did not balance the bad. I had an abusive life, there’s no other way to tell the story. It’s a reality. It’s a truth. That’s what you’ve got, so you have to accept it.”
