An Indiana bar was forced to backtrack after facing a boycott over the Dylan Mulvaney controversy.
Bud Light’s partnership with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney has sparked public outrage and further divided the people across the heavily polarized nation after the controversial partnership was made public on April 1.
With the help of Bud Light and its parent company Anheuser-Busch, Mulvaney celebrated her first year of “girlhood” by having her face appear on special edition cans of the popular beer.
Since then, outraged critics of the trans influencer called for a boycott of Bud Light and other companies who chose to support their partnership.
Facing the ‘Go woke, go broke’ chants was also The Fairfax Bar & Grill in Bloomington which earlier this month caused fury among its patrons after saying that customers who “voice their concerns about the issue will be immediately asked to pay their bill and leave.”
“We are tired of all of the hate. We are very open to debate and discussion and it’s truly a shame that we can’t have open conversations about this important political and cultural topic,” the bar posted on April 11.
“Bars, in our opinion, exist as public spaces where ideas should be exchanged. Unfortunately due to all of the bigotry and hatred that has surfaced around the Bud Light controversy any patron wanting to voice their concerns about the issue will be immediately asked to pay their bill and leave our establishment.”
The bar went on to threaten the patrons saying they “will be asked to leave” should they “feel the need to discuss this matter.”
The confrontational statement, however, wasn’t all too well received by the bar’s patrons of whom many vowed to never set their feet in the establishment again.
Amid claims that the bar is threatening its customers’ freedom of speech and attempting to shut down people’s opinions, the owners appeared to backtrack on their previous statement saying different opinions were welcome in their establishment after all.
“A lot has been said – some correct, and some incorrect – and I want to clarify my stance. What I really want to convey is this: just be respectful. Different opinions are welcome here as long as they are delivered respectfully,” the statement on April 16 read.
“We’d no more want ugly, aggressive or rude interactions about which sports team someone thinks is better, than about societal issues. We do not and will not censor opinions, but we do require civility in this establishment.
“So if you can’t play nice, then get out of the sandbox. That goes for everyone! Let’s remember why we even gather at a bar – to enjoy each other’s company – and raise a glass to civility.”
