A baby girl was shot dead through a wall by a young boy who was playing with his father’s gun on Saturday night.
1-year-old Kasey Bass was playing with her older sister, 2, at Lion’s Motel near Pensacola, Florida, when she was struck by a bullet that ripped through the wall of the motel room in which her family was staying.
According to the reports, the baby girl was shot by an 8-year-old boy who was playing with his dad’s gun in the neighboring room after the man, 45-year-old Roderick Randall, left the weapon unsecured in the closet of the room he was staying in together with his girlfriend and her two daughters.
As the authorities claim, the boy found the gun after his father had left the room. While playing with the weapon, he fired a round that ended up piercing the wall and killing little Kasey.
During the shooting, Kasey’s older sister was also injured. She is expected to make a full recovery.
After Randall returned to the room, he reportedly took the gun and his drugs before leaving the motel again, investigators believe.
Following the man’s arrest, he was charged with two counts of culpable negligence, failure to securely store a firearm, tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Meanwhile, Kasey’s heartbroken family launched a GoFundMe page to pay the little girl a tribute and raise money for her funeral.
“On June 26, 2022 Baby Kasey life was taken at an early age due to a tragic accident. We thank God for him sharing her with us for a little short time,” Loletha Bass, a relative, wrote.
“She was a very happy and loving baby that was filled with joy. The family is asking for help with the burial of baby Kasey Bass.”
