A man and a five-week-old baby died in a horrible crash after a woman stole baby supplies and led the police on a highway chase.
38-year-old Candance Gill was arrested and charged with two counts of manslaughter after crashing into another vehicle on a Louisiana highway following her stealing spree at a Walmart.
According to the reports, Gill and Williams were shopping at a Walmart when they were approached by security after being caught stealing baby items.
While it is not clear what the stolen items were, it is believed that the pair was shoplifting for baby formula which is currently in high demand across the nation due to a shortage.
By the time the police arrived at the store, the pair had already taken off in their Chevrolet Camaro.
After they were spotted by witnesses on a nearby highway, the police pursued the suspects “but the vehicle failed to stop,” the police report says.
Eventually, the pair crashed into another vehicle. Williams and a 5-week-old baby died in the crash. Gill fled the scene but was later arrested at a nearby residence.
According to the reports, the passengers of the vehicle Gill had crashed into suffered minor injuries.
Following her arrest, the mother was charged with two counts of manslaughter, one count of shoplifting, four counts of negligent injury, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony, four counts of failing to appear for a bench warrant, and more.
It has since the crash also come to light that the baby was likely not restrained during the high-speed chase.
