A man from Atlanta was pictured after being released from prison, after serving a jail sentence that was 23 years long, for a crime he never committed.
43-year-old Devonia Inman broke down into tears after being free from Georgia’s prison, right after he spent 23 years behind bars for an offense that he never committed.
Inman was reportedly charged for carrying out the murder of a Taco Bell night manager in the year 1988 in Adel, Georgia.
Donna Brown was killed in the Taco Bell restaurant’s parking lot and then robbed of all of the restaurant’s cash receipts for that day which came out to be a total of $1700.
Meanwhile, in the year 2001, Inman was convicted for the crime, despite zero physical evidence showing his relation to the crime. Moreover, reports suggest that that verdict only after the testimony brought forward by four different but key witnesses. But soon after that, three of those individuals recanted.
On the other hand, the judge handling the case refused to allow the Atlanta citizen’s lawyers to intervene by bringing forward witnesses who made claims about how an employee from Taco Bell named Hercules Brown had killed Donna, despite having no relation.
Hercules Brown was reportedly convicted of the crime and was also accused of murdering two other victims in the year 2000. At the moment, he is currently serving his jail sentence as confirmed by local media outlets.
Shockwaves ruled over the city in 2011 as news about DNA connecting Hercules Brown with the murder of the Taco Bell night manager surfaced, many questioning the verdict in the case. With that being said, successive judges did not allow the reopening of the case during that period, until now.
The 43-year-old was greeted by his mother and stepfather, right after he left the Augusta State Medical Prison.
