Lashing out at the popular hit that aired in 1968 were thousands of critics who suggested there was no such thing as a “natural woman” as they demanded the song be removed from Spotify and Apple Music.

The debate kicked off after The Trans Cultural Mindfulness Alliance condemned the hit on social media and implied that it causes harm to trans women by encouraging “anti-trans stereotypes.”

“Aretha Franklin’s 1968 song ‘Natural Woman’ perpetuates multiple harmful anti-trans stereotypes. There is no such thing as a ‘natural’ woman,” the organization tweeted.

“The song has helped inspire acts of harm against transgender women. TCMA is requesting it is removed from Spotify & Apple Music.”

The post has since sparked a heated debate and a backlash with people condemning the organization for trying to ruin a good song with their ‘woke agenda.’

“That song was recorded by Aretha Franklin but Gerry Goffin wrote the words and Carole King wrote the music, so it’s their song. It was written long before insanity set in so you should leave the song alone. Why don’t you ask biological women for their opinion?” one angry user wrote.

“Stupidest tweet ever. On behalf of all normal people, I request you remove your Twitter account,” another said.

A third wrote: “If there’s no such thing as a natural woman, then there’s no such thing as nature & we all know nature exists and in the natural state of things, women exist. Stop trying to erase natural women just because some men want to be like them. Stop running from the truth!”

TCMA, however, stayed unmoved in their stance on the matter as they doubled down on their initial post by claiming that “there is no meaningful difference between cisgender women and transgender women.”
