Andre Braugher’s cause of death has been revealed after the actor’s sudden passing at the age of just 61.
The beloved actor and two-time Emmy recipient passed away on Monday, December 11, after what was initially described as a brief illness.
It was now revealed that the Thief, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Homicide: Life on the Street star died from lung cancer just months after he was diagnosed with the illness. This was confirmed by the actor’s representative and originally published by The New York Times.
Following Braugher’s unfortunate passing, tributes to the iconic cop actor began pouring in with people remembering the 11-time Emmy nominee as a kind man and a good father.
“I am devastated. I love him. The 9 years I was able to work with him and to just be in his presence was truly a blessing. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family,” his Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star Dirk Blocker said.
The Gina Linetti actress, Chelsea Peretti, added: “I will always cherish our conversations, often with me hanging in your doorway barring your exit, and the insane opportunity to be your sidekick. Is it weird that I am also grieving for what Captain Holt meant to Gina? I really hoped and knew I would see you again. Hate that I won’t.”
Speaking out was also the show’s lead star Terry Crews who thanked the actor for his wisdom and advice while paying tribute to their friendship.
“Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You left us too soon,” he wrote.
“Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship. Deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like.”
