Austin Majors, the child actor that appeared in NYPD Blue, died suddenly at the age of just 27.

The actor reportedly passed away at a homeless facility in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday night.

While the official cause of death is yet to be confirmed, TMZ revealed that the former child star may have died from ingesting a “fatal amount of fentanyl.”

It was also confirmed that the autopsy will be carried out today, whereas a complete toxicology report is expected in a matter of months.

“[Austin] was a loving, artistic, brilliant, and kind human being. Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated Salutatorian in High School. He went on to graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion of directing and music producing,” the young man’s family expressed in a statement obtained by TMZ.

“Austin’s younger sister Kali says her fondest memories with Austin were growing up on set with him, volunteering at events with ‘Kids With A Cause,’ and backpacking together.”

The tear-jerking tribute continued: “Austin was the kid of son, brother, grandson, and nephew that made us proud and we will miss him deeply forever.”

The tragic news comes two decades after Majors won the Young Artists Award for his performance in NYPD Blue.

Besides his role in 48 episodes of the beloved TV show, the child actor also appeared in several movies including Providence, Treasure Planet, The Price of Air, and Bananas. He also joined Kids With A Cause in 2005.

Austin secured a number of other smaller roles in series like ER, NCIS, Hercules, and many more.

“Woah! Just paid dues & realized I’ve been a member of SAG for 2 decades (now @sagaftra). What a beautiful ride it has been. I never dreamed I’d still be alive this many years later,” the aspiring actor wrote in his 2020 post as he shared a photo of his SAG-AFTRA card.

“My first union job was a commercial for @bountypapertowels , the quicker picker upper! I’m proud/shocked by this seeming time-warp & somehow it still feels like the trip is just beginning.”
