Mom Was Accused For Hating Her Own Daughter After Giving Her An Unusual Name


A mother was criticized online for choosing an unusual name for her daughter.

Parents often choose a baby name by picking one with a special meaning or association. Another source of inspiration is the origin and its historical associations like presidents, famous artists, or explorers.

Jordan, a mom of two, shared a clip to TikTok reacting to bashers who say that she hates her daughter for spelling her name wrong.

With an account name of @thekoscalgirls, she told her 35,900 followers that she took inspiration from the Twilights books in choosing her daughter’s name.

In the hit collection, Bella and Edward merge their mother’s names for their baby daughter Renesmee and Jordan just decided to tweak the spelling.

Renesmee is a feminine given name created by author Stephenie Meyer for a character in Breaking Dawn, the fourth novel in the Twilight series. It is a combination of the names Renee and Esmé.

“If you truly think about it everyone is technically named after someone,” the caption in the video reads.

“Yes her name is Renesmae,” the mom said in the clip. “Yes, it’s from Twilight.”

“Y’all act like it’s not uncommon to get a name from a book/movie.”

The clip quickly went viral on TikTok and currently had 585,000 views, but not everyone was impressed about the little girl’s name.

In response to the bad comments, Jordan shared a follow-up video where she featured and answer some of the rude questions she’d received.

With the caption “I love my renegade”, the mom wrote in the video: “questions I’ve been getting..”

“Did you really name your daughter Renesmae?” one viewer asked.

To which she replied: “Yes.”

The second question was “do you hate your daughter or something?” to which she answered “obviously!” to which she proudly replied “no s**t”.

The sarcastic mom ended the video by saying “it’s a beautiful name TO US”.

Meanwhile, other commenters defended the mother.

“We named our kids Anakin from Star Wars, I love your daughter’s name,” one commenter said.

“I love it,” one person added. “Renesmae is beautiful.”

“I’m not a fan of the name but I respect the choice for it,” a third one wrote. “I doubt half these people that say s*** are even ever going to meet her.”

In 2009, seventeen baby girls born in the United States were given the name Renesme or Renesmee. The name increased in admiration for American girls the following year, when 47 girls were named Renesmee in 2010 in the United States and an additional eight girls were named Renesme.

It dropped slightly in 2011 when 37 American girls born that year were given the name Renesmee and another five girls were given the name Renesme.

In 2012, 59 American girls were given the name Renesmee and in 2013, the name rose again in popularity, when 135 American girls received the name.

In 2013, an additional 17 American girls were given the name with its variant spelling Renesme.

In 2014, 135 American girls were given the name Renesmee, while 28 were given the name Renesmae, 24 were given the name Renezmae, 10 were given the name Renesme, eight were given the name Renezmee, seven were given the name Renesmay, and five were given the name Renezmay (307 in total).

Though in 2012, Stephenie Meyer said: “I would never name a real child Renesmee.”
