Marine Veteran Died After Two Men Attacked Him While He Was Shopping For Food


A Marine veteran who served in the Vietnam War died at the hands of two men who attacked him in an attempt to steal his car.

73-year-old Keith Cooper was a Chicago veteran who was buying groceries at a Hyde Park shopping center when two carjackers ambushed him, police say.

According to the authorities, the two men demanded the veteran gives them his car before punching him in the head repeatedly.

During the attack, which took place sometime before 1 pm on Wednesday, the senior man collapsed. As it has since been confirmed, the veteran suffered a heart attack during the confrontation.

While passersby attempted to scare off the carjackers, a few people tried to resuscitate Cooper by performing CPR.

After the attackers fled the scene without taking Cooper’s car, paramedics arrived at the scene and rushed the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to WLS, the police have since tracked down two suspects with the help of the information provided by the eyewitnesses.

Following the veteran’s death, Cooper’s daughter, Keinika Carlton, admitted that the family is in shock.

“He didn’t deserve this. I mean nobody does. This wasn’t necessary. Honestly, I wish they just waited till he went into the store and took the car. Because at least he would still be here,” she said in an interview with the Tribune.

Speaking to the Sun Times, Carlton went on to vow she will always remember her father for “his love, his support, his smile, and his coming over for no reason.”

“It makes me so angry his car was worth more than his life to them, and that made no sense,” she added.
