“(Filming the sex scenes) was torture, yes it was, but it was also not torture,” the actor said. “I mean, come on, it was like a mix of both.”

Howard asked whether he warned his co-star in advance that a “protrusion” could occur.

“Weirdly, love scenes are awkward, because there are maybe 30, 50 people watching it?” Jake laughed before explaining. “ That doesn’t turn me on.”

“Most of the time, it’s oddly mechanical, right?” the actor explained. “And also, it’s a dance, you’re choreographing for a camera. You can get in it, but it’s like a fight scene, you have to choreograph those scenes.”

In the comedy-drama movie, Jake’s character Thomas “Holden” Worther embarks on an affair with married shop worker Justine Last, played by Jennifer Aniston.

Jennifer played a depressed retail employee who begins an affair with a co-worker (Jake) behind her husband’s back.

However, Jennifer prevented any awkward incidents while filming the steamy scenes by using “the pillow technique”.

“I do remember a pillow,” Jake said. “Yeah, the pillow technique was used.”

“That was just preemptive, and used — generally, always — when actually in a horizontal place in that movie,” he explained. “Everything else is whatever it was. I remember those two characters did a lot of making out on like, boxes in the back room.”

“I think that was actually a Jennifer suggestion,” he said. “I think she was actually very kind to suggest it before we began… She was like, “I’m putting a pillow here.” That was it, that was all she said.”

In an interview with People magazine, Jake previously fessed up to his crush on Jennifer in 2016.

“She’s a rough one, you know, not likable,” he said. “So hard to compliment.”

“I will say, I had a crush on her for years,” Jake said. “And working with her was not easy … I was – um, yeah. That’s all I’m going to say. It was lovely. It wasn’t hard, that’s what I would say.”

The actor was also asked if he thinks he could be a successful husband and father amid managing his thriving career.

“That’s all I want – is to be a good husband and a father … that really is what I want,” he said.

“Now that I have fulfilled a lot of things in my career that I feel comfortable with, I can safely say that,” he added. “I don’t know if I could have said that before.”
