Alec Baldwin’s daughter, Ireland Baldwin, has compared the social media reaction to the Astroworld festival incident and the fatal shooting on the film set of Rust.
Ireland Eliesse Baldwin, 26, is an American fashion model and actress. She is the daughter of actors Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger.
In an Instagram post that has since been deleted, Ireland spoke out against the spread of “misinformation” on social media platforms in the wake of tragedies.
At least two criminal investigations are underway into the deadly crowd surge at the opening night of Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival on November 5th.
Scott and the organizers of the Astroworld event have been sued by at least three concertgoers over injuries they sustained. Eight people died, between the ages of 14 and 28, while more were injured. There’s been an outpouring of tributes for the victims and calls for the rapper to be banned from performing at Coachella.
Ireland reportedly began her post by reflecting on the backlash her dad received after a gun he was holding fired on the set of “Rust,” leading to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.
She noted that she was tired of seeing people pretend to be experts in complicated situations.
“First, you were armory/stunt coordination pros when it came to the horrific tragedy involving my dad,” she said. “And now Travis Scott is demonic because he ALLOWED people to die at his show?”
“I’ll start by saying I am heartbroken for the families who lost a loved one,” Ireland said. “Everyone should feel safe when they’re going to enjoy live music. But it’s not Travis Scott’s fault. Any actual musician would validate that you can’t see or hear anyone up there. Especially when wearing in-ear monitors.”
“C’mon people… do a little research before you go spewing cancel culture [redacted],” she added. “People lost their children at this show and (all) you’ve got to say is that Travis Scott’s music is demonic and he belongs in prison? Jesus.”
Scott was accused of continuing his set in Houston, Texas even as the 50,000 strong audiences became increasingly out of control, leading to a crowd surge.
Investigators are currently focused on figuring out what broke down at the venue and among staff that allowed crowd control at the 2021 Astroworld Festival to get so out of hand. The New York Times reports that Houston Police Chief Troy Finner stated that he was worried that if Scott abruptly ended the show, it could lead to a riot among attendees.
“Maybe we should stick to what we actually know, stop making assumptions, stop spreading misinformation, and educate ourselves on things we know nothing about,” she said.
Ireland then sent another Instagram story soon after describing her own nightmare experiences at one of Scott’s shows.
“I am in no way defending Travis Scott because honestly, I don’t know him or care personally,” Ireland said.
“I’ve been to two of his shows,” Ireland explained. “I watched people get carried out on stretchers with head injuries and from ODs. He incites the rage. No doubt about that.”
“But I refuse to fall into this twisted cancel culture bulls–t when it’s coming from people who have no idea how anything works,” Ireland said. “I ask a bunch of questions before forming any kind of opinion. Also, people on the internet saying it’s the kid’s who died fault and they knew what they were getting into…Um no. There should have been so many protocols in place to keep kids safe.”
Evidently, Ireland didn’t like the response her posts received as she confessed later to deleting them amid criticisms. However, she stopped short of saying she agreed with any of the criticism.
“Deleted my post for one reason – people on the internet are scary and so misinformed,” she wrote. “All that matters are the families of those who died in the Astroworld tragedy. My heart breaks for them. The point I was trying to make was stop rage-blaming. Make informed opinions and posts. So many people are at fault. Not just one person.”
She also shared a link to a GoFundMe page dedicated to the victims of the Astroworld tragedy.

Travis Scott announced that he will be covering the funeral costs for those who died, as well as offering free one-on-one online therapy sessions through BetterHelp for those affected by the tragedy.
Ireland had herself recently come under fire online, accused of being “tone-deaf” for posting pictures of her dressed in a bloody Halloween costume just days after her dad’s fatal on-set shooting.
