A 33-year-old husband tragically died after a ritual ‘to save his new marriage’ went horribly wrong.
Engineer Anton Shabanov has been bludgeoned with an ax after he turned to black magic because his wife, 29-year-old Lyubov, left him only months after they tied the knot.
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, he sought the help of fraudster Bikolay Ivanov from Krasnoyarsk for a ritual that involved burying the pair’s possessions in a forest.
But while performing the ritual, 22-year-old Ivanov mocked the man and even insulted his wife.
A heated argument ensued and Ivanov hit Shabanov with an ax multiple times before covering his body with branches.
The fraudster was later detained by police, and he admitted to murdering Shabanov. He was sentenced to prison for 9 and a half years and was ordered to pay more than $27,000 in damages.
The committee said: “The court established that a local resident, wishing to restore relations with his wife, decided to resort to an occult ritual.
‘To perform the ceremony, he needed to bury their personal belongings in a deserted place outside the city.”
The statement also said that “while digging a pit (Ivanov) spoke negatively about this ceremony and the victim’s wife, as a result of which a quarrel arose between the men.
“The conflict escalated into a fight, during which (Ivanov) struck multiple blows with an axe to the head and neck of the Astrakhan resident, and then covered the body with branches and fled the scene of the crime.”
Speaking to 360TV, a friend of Shabanov said: “They had split up. They did not divorce but had been living separately. Naturally he was upset, but I cannot imagine he would be involved in rites to bring him back.”
