A grieving woman has spoken out after her seemingly fit and healthy husband passed away without a warning.

Bec Barry was left devastated when her 35-year-old husband, Andrew, suddenly went silent while the two were having a chat before going to bed.

As the woman revealed, Andrew played with their kids, did a workout, and took a shower before collapsing and falling to the floor “in a matter of seconds.”

“I have to live with that for the rest of my life. I literally watched him take his last breath. It was so fast… it was a matter of seconds,” Barry recalled in an interview with Daily Mail Australia.

Bec also revealed that her husband underwent a complete physical examination following his brother’s health complications just months before the unfortunate incident.

“He had a Holter monitor [a wearable portable electrocardiogram], he had an ECG, he had an echocardiogram, he had everything done but an MRI,” she added.

“Andrew played footy, rode bikes, did all the stuff normal guys do. He had no prior symptoms. And because he passed all his other testing, they said he didn’t need the MRI.”

It wasn’t until postmortem that it was revealed Andrew died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome caused by an underlying heart condition known as Arrhythmogenic Ventricular Cardiomyopathy.

While the condition, which results in fatty fibrous tissue replacing normal heart muscle, could have been detected during MRI, the scan was never done due to the young father’s seemingly perfect condition.

“They put it down to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, but it’s because he had this undiagnosed heart condition,” Bec revealed.

In a tribute to her husband, she added: “Andrew was incredible. He was a person that you could go to and just literally tell him anything, and he would give you all of his support. He was always happy.

“He was always making jokes. He was an amazing dad. He was very hands on. He worked full time, but he would still come home and go, ‘Righto let’s go do something kids! We’re gonna go for a walk, go for a ride and kick the footy!’ And all of his friends absolutely loved him.”

Following the young man’s sudden passing, Bec decided to launch her own fashion brand called ‘AVC The label’ and donate a portion of its profits to the Heart Foundation.

Our thoughts are with Andrew’s family and friends.
