Miley Harty, 20, was supposed to marry his partner Kate Quilligan at St Munchin’s Church in the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, August 21.

Miley, or knows as Myles to his friends, was a front passenger of a car that swerved off into a pole at around 1 am at Cragmore on the Askeaton to Rathkeale Road in Limerick.

Myles died instantly while a man, who was in the back seat, is being treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Reports say that the crash happened after another car drove the wrong way down a motorway when a vehicle was seen driving toward oncoming traffic on the M6.

It is thought the single-occupant vehicle traveled the wrong way down a slip road and onto the dual carriageway and collided head-on with a car carrying three people.

An 18-year-old, whom the officers believe to be driving the car, was arrested at the scene, on suspicion of committing an offense under the Road Traffic Act and is being held at being held in Henry Street Garda Station.

Kate was supported by hundreds of family and friends, including those who should have been celebrating the couple’s wedding, as they mourned outside the church where they were due to tie the knot.

A sound system played music as dozens of blue heart-shaped balloons which read “King For A Day” and “20”, were released into the sky above the church grounds.

Father Sean O’Longaigh, Askeaton Parish Priest told how the town was shocked and added that Myles was well-known in his rural west Limerick community.

“It’s very sad for the families, they are now switching from a wedding to a funeral. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, naturally,” he said.
