A gay man trapped in Afghanistan said that the Taliban is hunting the LGBTQ+, adding a harrowing description of what life would be like for them under the extremist group.
The gay man, whose identity had been hidden for his own safety, spoke to Mail Online and said the Taliban would take pleasure in hunting down and killing the LGBTQ+ people.
“They kill us very brutally,” he said. “Not like the others who they kill with a gun or a bullet.”
“They will use fire, or they will behead or stone us, and they will enjoy it,” he told Mail Online through a video call. “It’s acceptable to them.”
The unnamed man went on to say his best friend committed suicide because ‘no one was here to listen to his voice’.
“I tried to encourage him, to give him hope, but he’s not coming back and I can’t forget that moment,” he said. “He was living like a shadow, and he went like a shadow.”
The future for the LGBTQ+ community in Afghanistan became dark when the Taliban took over after President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw the US troops in the country.
According to Afghan laws, homosexuality is already prohibited. People who engaged in same-sex sexual behavior will receive prison terms and were widely persecuted.
However, under the Taliban’s interpretation of Sharia Law, homosexuality is strictly prohibited and punishable by brutal death.
Earlier this week, US Special Forces sniper Tim Kennedy –who served in both Afghanistan and Iraq– told Fox News that he had personally seen the Taliban burning homosexuals alive and throwing them off of roofs.
“For years LGBTQ+ Afghans have had to endure routine discrimination, abuse, and persecution, including by the state,” Nancy Kelley, chief executive of LGBT rights charity Stonewall told I News. “With the Taliban in power, we expect this situation to deteriorate further.”
Meanwhile, allied forces are cutting their evacuation operations short after the recent ISIS terror attacks.
The double suicide bombing carried out by ISIS-K militants at the gates of Kabul airport killed at least 108 people, including 13 American troops, prompting Western forces to end their evacuation campaigns immediately.
