TV Sitcom WKRP Star Frank Bonner Passes Away At The Age Of 79


TV sitcom WKRP star Frank Bonner has passed away at the age of 79, his heartbroken family has announced.

Famous for playing the role of Herb Tarlek, Bonner is said to have died peacefully on Wednesday, according to TMZ.

His death was a result of complications from Lewy body dementia, the second most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer’s disease.

According to the report, Bonner was surrounded by his family and friends when he passed away.

It was in 1978 when WKRP premiered on the CBS television network and aired for four seasons, ending on April 21, 1982.

Bonner began his acting career as Frank Boers Jr in the experimental independent film The Equinox… A Journey into the Unknown in 1967.

He then found fame from the popular sitcom WKRP, where his character Herb was known for wearing plaid shirts but could not land the big account as sales manager.

He then went on to direct some episodes of the show and reprised his role when the series was given a spin-off in the 90s, on The New WKRP in Cincinnati.

In 1979, Bonner made the headlines when he suffered a parachute accident. He was hospitalized after falling 20 feet as the ascendency chut malfunctioned while he was being towed by a vehicle in Los Angeles.

He then went on to guest star in one of the episodes of Night Court sitcom in the 1980s but decided to remain private throughout his career.

Bonner also played the role of Father Hargis, headmaster of the St. Augustine’s Academy on the TV series Just the Ten Of Us. He also appeared in one of the episodes of the TV show Newhart.
