A woman has shared the moment she discovered that her gynecologist of nine years was actually her biological father after he secretly used his own sperm to inseminate her mother.
36-year-old Morgan Hellquist had been a patient of Dr. Morris Wortman in New York for almost a decade, getting pelvis and breast exams by his hands without knowing that she was his biological dad.
When she got an Ancestry DNA test in 2016, she found many half-siblings on the platform. But it was in 2021 when she learned of the awful truth: that her gynecologist had fathered them all.
Speaking on Good Morning America, Hellquist said: “He knew the whole time who he was and I didn’t. He took away that choice for me.”
In 2016, she found her half-sibling David Berry, who had been shocked to learn that the father who raised him was actually his biological father.
“Then there was five of us. And we were all the same age,” Hellquist shared. “And six, and then seven. And it started to feel like, well if there’s seven there might be 20. And if there’s 20, there might be 100. And I started to feel terrified.”
“When we found out, there wasn’t any need to tell (my mother). I was screaming and sobbing at the top of my lungs,” Hellquist continued.
But under the law, what Wortman did is not categorized as s*xual assault. Only seven states – Arkansas, Indiana, California, Colorado, Florida and Texas have fertility fraud laws.
Hellquist then filed a lawsuit against Wortman for his continued treatment of her even though he knew that he was her father, alleging lack of informed consent, medical malpractice, infliction of emotional distress, negligence, battery, and fraud.
“I do not have a fertility fraud case,” she said. “I have a case because he touched me without my consent.”
