A young boy holding a sign that read ‘I am a bully’ went viral after being forced to stand at the side of the road by his parents.
Sparking a heated debate on social media, a video showing a young boy seemingly being punished by his parents for being a bully was shared on TikTok by Gavin Klein.
In the short clip, which was taken somewhere in Florida, the child is seen standing at the side of a busy road while holding a sign that reads: “I am a bully, honk if you hate bullies.”
Just feet away from the young boy, two adults – presumably the kid’s parents – can be seen sitting and keeping an eye on their son together with their dog.
Though the circumstances surrounding the situation are unclear, it can be assumed that the parents were punishing their son over an incident involving bullying.
After the video went viral, plenty of people condemned the parents and suggested that they, too, were bullies.
“Humiliating children is traumatic. Especially these, they aren’t fully developed. Kids who act out tend to have something wrong at home,” someone wrote.
“The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Kids act out when they are lacking guidance, attention, and love in the household,” another said.
The third suggested: “Negative reinforcement is the least effective way of raising kids. Punishment makes kids just not wanna get caught, not stop doing it.”
Many people, however, hit back at the critics and insisted that this was an example of “great parenting” and that the kid is going to learn a very important lesson in the process.
“You think the kid that got bullied isn’t embarrassed every day at school? He got a taste of his own medicine,” someone argued.
“I applaud the parents!! I would do the same I don’t want my kid to bully anyone or anyone bully mine,” another viewer said.
The third agreed: “I am fine with it. Stop bullying at all costs!”
