30-year-old Christian is a proud dad from Connecticut who came out as transgender in his early 20s after struggling with his gender identity ever since he was a child.

According to the dad, he knew he didn’t feel right as a female from a young age despite his parents trying their best to raise him as a girl.

“The first time I came out I was six years old. I told my best friend at the time, ‘I was supposed to be born a boy but something went wrong when I was in my mum’s tummy,’” Christian told News.com.au.

“I didn’t know the word transgender yet. I called myself a tomboy and at recess when we played boys versus girls, I always asked to be included with the boys.

“It was not a light decision for me to medically transition. I worried a lot about the difficulties I’d face and what others in my life would think, especially those I was not out to yet.”

While the 30-year-old admitted this wasn’t an easy path to take, he insisted he was depressed because of his gender dysphoria and “couldn’t live life not being my true self anymore.”

In his candid interview, he also revealed that he now refuses to put his children through the same pain he underwent which is why he wants them to be raised as genderless to that they can decide whether they want to be male or female when they are older.

“Your sex and your gender identity are two different things. It seemed wrong to say my child is a boy or a girl based on their genitalia. That’s not what makes you a boy or a girl,” he added.

“Gender is much more about how you feel inside yourself. I use they/them pronouns and a gender-neutral nickname for my baby.”

Christian also revealed that the majority of negative comments towards him and his parenting style come from his family members who are “transphobic” and can’t accept the idea of having children pick out their gender for themselves.

Speaking of his children, the dad concluded: “They are secure in their own identity and don’t let any gender roles society put on them stop them from doing what they enjoy in life.

“They are very happy, healthy, and self-confident children who are growing up in a loving and supportive home.”
