A 34-year-old mother from Australia has pleaded guilty to intentionally leaving her little baby in a hot car so she could enjoy a night of gambling.
Kaija Millar reportedly left her son Easton in the blazing hot vehicle for nearly five long hours, all alone to die.
The 14-month-old child was then rescued to a nearby hospital in the most critical condition, explained officials. Moreover, reports also spoke about how the child was a very happy and healthy baby. But that was before his evil mother opted to cripple him forever.
The heat-related injuries had a drastic effect on the baby, leaving him with severe brain damage, the court heard. And for that reason, he requires life-long care and support to live.
But his mother had no care in the world as she knew exactly what she was doing. Instead, she gambled five hours away at a nearby pub in Melbourne while the child’s little body baked for hours in the scorching heat.
Investigators claim the wicked mother even went about lying to both the police as well as paramedics, in an effort to help mask her crime.
But on Wednesday, the mother was finally given the punishment she deserved when a court in Victoria announced her guilty verdict, adding how negligence caused serious injury to her 14-month-old baby.
The court revealed how the temperatures outside had gone up to a staggering 37.5 degrees in the western Melbourne region. But that made zero difference to the mom who then chose to indulge her time playing some Bingo and poker too at the Brook hotel.
To add more horror to the already tragic story, the mother rolled up all of the car’s windows and even turned off the vehicle’s air conditioning system as she went about blowing away cash heartlessly.
The baby’s body turned a shade of greyish-blue with his internal temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees centigrade. This caused his internal organs to begin failing, causing him to turn blind and damage his brain as well.
For now, the mother has been sentenced to five years in jail, as reported by local media outlets in Australia.
