A senior man was severely beaten by a large gang of ATV and off-road motorcycle drivers while picking up his Thanksgiving turkey.
The shocking attack took place in Boston where an unnamed 82-year-old man was on his way to collect his holiday turkey when he was surrounded, chased, and forced to a stop by a group of 30 to 40 riders on ATVs and dirt bikes.
While it is unclear what triggered the Thursday confrontation, the police have confirmed that the group forced the elderly man, who was driving his vintage sedan, off the road and onto the curb before shattering his windows and beating him up.
“He was going to pick up a turkey. That’s all he was doing. A simple errand at 7:30 at night. You wouldn’t think that it would be a dangerous time for someone to be out,” the man’s daughter, who also chose to remain anonymous, said in an interview with WCVB.com.
While the elderly man attempted to escape the gang by driving across a nearby bridge, he was allegedly followed and attacked once more when he got stuck in traffic.
As the police revealed, the man was punched through a broken window while several gang members continued to kick and smash his vehicle.
“The only thing he could do was protect his heart. That’s why he’s got such a large bruise on his arm,” the man’s daughter, who revealed that her father had recently undergone heart surgery, added.
Following the attack, the man was rushed to the hospital. As of this writing, the police have not yet identified or arrested any of the suspects involved in the brutal encounter.
“He wasn’t doing anything wrong. He’s simply traveling somewhere and then he gets attacked, and it’s heartbreaking for us to know that it’s not safe for our 82-year-old father to be out by himself,” the distraught senior’s daughter said.
“Discouraged at humanity in general to know that someone — or more than someone — can get together and beat on a defenseless elderly man.”
Following the incident, the Massachusetts State Police spoke to DailyMail.com through a spokesperson who said:
“This was a despicable and cowardly act; the investigation is proceeding and we welcome any assistance from members of the public who may have witnessed all or part of this incident or who saw this group in Boston that night.”
