A father has sparked an interesting argument online over whether it’s acceptable to let your kids swear, after claiming his son’s first word will probably be the F word.
This one dad has admitted that he’s not worried if his child uses swear words as soon as he can talk.
Connor Robertson with a username @clothdiaperdadd and has 87,00 TikTok followers, has shared the reason why he’ll let his son curse as he grows up. He stitched another TikToker to respond to a question they’d posed about parenting styles.
They had asked: “What’s an unpopular opinion that you have about your parenting that might make a lot of parents mad?”
In the clip captioned with “in this house we swear”, Connor revealed that one of his “unpopular opinions” about parenting is that he will let his newborn son swear as much as he likes when he grows older.
“Oh, I’ve got a lot of these but here are my top three,” he responded. “Number one: my kid will be allowed to swear. I do not care how old he is and I do not care if it upsets you or your children.”
“He is more than likely going to grow up to be an adult who swears, so we might as well let him practice while he can,” he continued. “My wife and I actually have a bet on whether his first words are going to be the F word or “I love you” because those are the two most popular words in our household.”
In the next point, the father said they used human anatomy words like “penis” and “vagina” in the house, adding he does not care if it makes other children feel awkward.
“No slang terms, no “coohcie”, no “dingaling”, no “kitty kitty miaow miaow”, anything like that. “Penis” and “vagina”, that’s how it works,” the father proudly says. “That’s what they are, no shame in it.”
His final point was that toys will have no genders and if his son wants to play with a toy aimed at girls then that is fine.
“And number three: toys do not have genders,” he said. “If he wants to play with it then he’s going to be able to play with it.”
“For example, we have a pink chair that we bought him at a garage sale,” he explained. “Why? Because it was cheaper than the blue one, and it really does not matter. So yes, my son has a pink chair that he plays with, and he absolutely loves it.”
The video created a huge conversation in the comments section and has racked up 3.4 million likes, has been viewed more than 12 million times, and gained more than 37,000 comments.
Some users weren’t pleased with Connor’s parenting style.
“I respectfully disagree with everything you said,” one viewer said.
“I agree with everything except the swearing,” a second user wrote.
“Your house your rules, that doesn’t mean all ur rules are right though,” a third commented.
However, the majority was surprisingly positive and agreed with him, especially on the swearing.
“My rule on curse words was time and place around others and could not be used in anger towards someone else,” one person responded.
“The sooner children start using curse words the sooner they’ll learn when it’s appropriate,” a second commenter said.
“Studies actually show that parents that curse in front of their children, the children grow up into more adjusted adults,” another has added.
“I love this sm!!” said another. “What a great way to raise a child, well done.”
