An ultrasound scan, sometimes called a sonogram, is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body.
An ultrasound scan can also be used to monitor an unborn baby.
For most parents, a picture of it brings so much happiness as it gives them a glimpse of what to expect in their little bun.
But an eerie ultrasound photo has gone viral after thousands of people on social media noticed something unexplainable in the corner, a “demon”.
The image posted by an anonymous Imgur user has been viewed over a thousand times in two days as internet users shared their different explanations of the creepy photo. It shows a fetus, which appears to be around 8 to 10 weeks old, and what looks like a frightening face with a naked body outside the womb.
“A friend’s ultrasound,” the user captioned. “When you see it…”
It is safe to assume that the unborn baby’s mother was horrified upon seeing the demon-like creature in the scan, watching over her baby.
At first glance, it appears to be a standard image of an unborn child sleeping soundly in her mother’s womb. But at a closer look, you can see that this is not your average ultrasound.
The figure seems to stretch from the top of the ultrasound to its base and includes a face with large black eyes and a horn-shaped mark on its head.
The body then tapers down to what many people decided was a mermaid’s tail. A strange-looking figure is lurking next to the fetus, seemingly watching over it.
Some viewers say it’s a gritty outline of a woman but then others have different thoughts about it.
“There’s a demon next to that bean,” a person commented.
“Does no one else see the demon on the right?” says another one.
“Hindu goddess on the right side of the image,” a person has added.
“Oh my! That’s terrifying,” a user claimed. “I see 2 entities on either side of the fetus”.
“I’m seeing a friendly mermaid,” another one commented. “Everyone else is seeing a demon. We’re all weird.”
The picture has been viewed more than 500,000 times since being uploaded yesterday. Hundreds were curious and asked the site for more information, so the original poster was forced to give an update.
“Everything is fine now,” user luigivampa-over9000 later explained. “The baby was premature by 2 months.”
“They asked the tech who did the ultrasound what it was – they didn’t really have an answer besides they haven’t seen something like that before,” the user added. “Kinda an interesting story with a photo to go along.”
This weird incident wasn’t the first time strange things have been spotted on ultrasounds, several claims of mysterious stuff appearing in ultrasound scans have been previously reported.
In 2015, a soon-to-be mother claimed to have seen her late grandfather kissing her unborn child in a 4D scan taken in July 2013.
Jade Hornsby, a 21-year-old soon-to-be mother from Dagenham, East London said that her late grandfather Jack Hornsby, who died in 2007, appeared.
Jade believes that Jack is watching over her baby Lacey-Mae Head, who was born in October 2013 at Queens Hospital, Romford.
In another incident, parents-to-be Yvonne Spence and John Reynolds were shocked to spot a strange face in a six-month scan.
The couple said that they could not recognize the ghostly face in the photo but couldn’t deny that it was “as clear as day.”
In July, 29-year-old Leanne Sullivan was shocked to see what appeared to be a dinosaur photo-bombing her unborn baby girl. The picture was very surprising as it matched with the release of the intensely awaited dinosaur sequel, Jurassic World.
