A grieving mother who finally had a ‘perfect baby’ through IVF was left devastated after her son was tragically killed in a horrific car crash.
36-year-old Rachael Thorold was pushing 5-month-old Louis’ pram on the sidewalk when a Renault Master van struck them in January.
The collision left the mother fighting for her life for more than a month but Louis did not survive the crash.
Speaking to BBC, Rachael said: “It’s what I’d waited such a long time to happen. We had quite a long journey through IVF to have him, but he was perfect.”
The heartbroken mom said her grief was an “ongoing process” that “will probably take me many, many years, probably the rest of my life to get over.”
Rachael has previously opened up about how she “knew in my heart” that her baby had died the moment she woke up from a coma.
She told MailOnline in April: “I remembered being pregnant. And because there was no baby I realised I must have lost him. I knew in my heart he had passed away.”
In an interview with ITV News, Rachael’s husband said: “It’s genuinely devastating, I just feel sad all the time to be honest.
“I don’t think that anybody can understand how devastating it really is for everybody involved and not just me but for Rachael.
“We can’t do anything to bring Louis back, he was such an amazing little boy, him and Rachael were just completely inseparable and never spent a moment apart.”
Rachael is currently undergoing rehab but she hopes that she and her husband Chris can start building a family again in the future.
“Obviously we are at our lowest point now but hopefully we can get back close to where we were,” she told the BBC.
