The airstrike took place near the Hamid Karzai airport after US intelligence suggested that ISIS-K were getting ready for another suicide attack with the help of two vehicles filled with explosives.

After targeting the two cars, US officials confirmed that the target was hit, whereas military spokesperson US Navy Captain Bill Urban insisted that there were no indications of civilian casualties during the preliminary investigation.

“We are confident we successfully hit the target. Significant secondary explosions from the vehicle indicated the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material,” he said.

Witnesses, however, claim otherwise. According to an Afghan official, who chose to remain anonymous in fear for his safety, three children were killed in the airstrike.
