On other occasions, she did her level best at soothing them with soft, subtle licks. Initially, the puppies were a little confused. Why was a stranger cat being so nice and welcoming to a box full of pups? But with time, it all made sense. This cat wanted nothing but love and that’s exactly what she showed.

Here, it wasn’t about cat versus dog. It was all about a mother grooming her new friends who she considered one of her own. Whether they liked it or not, she would continue to groom them. In the same way, the pups became used to the comforting licks.
She would simply lay around with them, just like a mother would with her own children. Protective, calm, and attentive- the mother displayed it all. This was her new family and there was no doubt about it, whatsoever.
A day came when the puppies began taking milk from their new mother- a cat. And that was the real moment that Kathryn felt whole and complete again. Oh, what a wonderful family affair.
