‘Careless’ Armorer Who Handed Alec Baldwin The Gun Stopped Filming On Last Movie Starring Nicolas Cage After She Gave Gun To 11-Year-Old Actress On Set

The 24-year-old armorer who handed Alec Baldwin the gun that took the life of Halyna Hutchins onset of the movie Rust has been ‘careless’ with weapons even before the fatal shooting, sources claim.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, the source who worked alongside Hannah Gutierrez-Red on a previous set said: “She was a bit careless with the guns, waving it around every now and again.

“There were a couple of times she was loading the blanks and doing it in a fashion that we thought was unsafe.”

Another source also claimed that the young armorer loaded a weapon with pebble-filled ground and gave it to child actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong, 11.

“She was reloading the gun on the ground, where there were pebbles and stuff. We didn’t see her check it, we didn’t know if something got in the barrel or not,” said the source who worked with her set of the Nicolas Cage movie ‘The Old Way.’

The source noted that the crew waited to film until the armorer had double-checked the barrel.

A Rust crew member referred to Gutierrez-Reed as being “inexperienced and green,” saying that there had been more than two incidents of guns being discharged on set before the tragic shooting.

Other Rust crew members also claim that there were many complaints made against the young armorer on the set and that at least six people had walked away before Gutierrez-Reed handed Baldwin the prop gun that took the life of Hutchins.

They said that they made their complaints to assistant director Dave Hall and demanded all the discharges were documented.

A production source said: “All of us yelled at him, ‘That better be on the production report, these guys are irresponsible and shouldn’t be here.

“That should be automatic grounds for termination on a union film set, you should be gone. The first time that gun went off without telling anybody, that whole department should have been replaced, immediately. Clearly production thought better of it, decided to roll the dice and pay the ultimate price.”
