According to the reports, the family had just arrived in the UK weeks ago after managing to escape war-struck Afghanistan where the Taliban have now retaken control of the capital.

During the family’s stay in the hotel’s 9th-floor bedroom, little Mohammed was looking through the window only to fall and plunge several dozen feet to his death.

While the hotel windows are not supposed to open by more than 2 inches, the window in the family’s room appeared to have malfunctioned, allowing enough space for the young boy to slip through.

As the 5-year-old fell to his death, the boy’s distressed mother was allegedly heard screaming “save my son.”

“I was in my room. I heard a sound, like I heard the body fall. His mother was in the room with him. She was screaming, ‘My son, my son.’ When I came here [outside] I saw the ambulance and police here,” an interpreter who’s staying at the hotel confirmed.

Speaking of the family’s situation, he added: “If the dad is working for the Americans or the English then their lives are in danger in Afghanistan. They came here to save their lives, they came for a new life here, but unfortunately…”
