The 21-year-old Colorado man who was accused of gunning down 10 victims at a Boulder store is being held without any bail.
Police identified the shooting suspect as Syrian-born Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa who received 10 counts of first-degree murder recently. Moreover, local media outlets reported how the suspect killed two victims at the store’s parking lot, right before barging inside and gunning down 8 more victims.
The new judge ruling on Thursday was a sigh of relief for so many as it meant the 21-year-old gunman would not be able to escape his evil actions and hence would not remain in police custody till his trial’s verdict.
Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa hails from Arvada, which is a suburb in Denver. He was later identified to be a migrant from Syria. Currently, the Boulder shooting suspect is being held at Boulder’s County Jail, and that’s ever since police arrested him from the King Soopers grocery store, last Monday.
Ahmad Alissa appeared for a short hearing recently where he was pictured wearing a mask. He was reportedly seen saying ‘yes’ to a question asked by the judge but did not enter into a plea regarding the charges. These charges will come later, as the judicial process picks up pace, later on.
One of Alissa’s defense lawyers, Kathryn Herold, requested a mental health assessment so as to address the gunman’s mental health illness. However, she failed to reveal the details about the condition that he might be suffering from.
Meanwhile, the suspect’s family has informed investigators how they believe he was suffering from some form of mental illness, which included delusions.
Relatives went on to reveal how he remained in a paranoid state, since his high school years. In the same way, they spoke about how he was reportedly seen playing with a gun, last week. But no one could possibly imagine him carrying out a devastatingly violent massacre like the one that took place on Monday afternoon.
