A mother from Arizona is now facing murder and attempted murder charges after pulling the trigger on her own children.
According to local media outlets, the mother fatally opened fire on her own children, which included her 2-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son.
Officials spoke about how the mother shot the children several times and at a minimal distance, making sure the bullets hit them, causing massive destruction.
The mother spoke about how she wished her children would go to heaven and that’s how she chose to justify her shocking behavior, explained to family members.
24-year-old Esther Callejas first aimed her gun at her 2-year-old daughter, firing several times. Soon, she began firing at least three rounds of shots at her six-year-old son too.
The mother then began running away from her residence which is located in Phoenix, as explained by prosecutors of the case in the courtroom on Monday.
Moreover, they also spoke about how the mother even tested the gun upon her own hand, making sure it worked just fine and would do the evil job that was on her mind for quite some time.
After spending all of the bullets on her kids, the mother tried to reload her handgun again but got infuriated when it failed to do so because she was out of bullets. On that note, the mother tried to commit suicide by swallowing a bunch of anti-depressant tablets, as reported by AZFamily.com recently.
Right after the horrifying incident, the mother even chose to call up her own husband as well as her sister-in-law, and that’s when she informed them about what she had just done.
When paramedics arrived at the crime scene, they found her six-year-old son in critical condition, still trying hard to breathe. However, despite their efforts to save the young two-year-old daughter, they just couldn’t due to the extent of bullet wounds.
The young girl failed to respond to CPR and was declared dead while the son managed to survive the horrifying ordeal.
Now, the mother is being tried for both murder and attempted murder charges, leaving her family members stricken with grief and absolute shock.
