Just when you thought you’d had enough of April Fools’ Day pranks, here comes the greatest one of all times.
On a bright morning in 1974, this April 1st was going to make history like no other. And that’s because this was the day that the world’s best April Fools’ Day pranks would be unveiled.
The incident took place in Sitka in Alaska, where residents received a shocking surprise of a lifetime. Many woke up to the scenes of black-toned smoke, plummeting from a volcano. Certainly, this wasn’t something of the ordinary that you would see at the famous Mount Edgecumbe- a renowned volcano that is present towards the southern side of Alaska’s Kruzof Island.
Citizens were taken aback at the sight of a menacing plume of dark smoke, that seemed to be rising from above its crater.
Therefore, panic and fear filled the air, with concerned residents called up the state officials and the police. In the same way, the coast guard and firefighter department were also alerted of the incident and put on standby too. However, little did anyone know that this entire episode was actually a really well-planned and thought-provoking prank to celebrate April Fools’ Day in style.
Soon, citizens saw choppers swirling the air too. Admiral Juneau was also alerted, a leading commander in chief, who arranges resources to investigate the incident.
As the pilot of the Coast Guard rescue services approached the volcano, he looked down below to see what the matter was really all about. Unfortunately, he was left puzzled as he simply couldn’t spot any form of lava coming out from anywhere. And just like that, the mystery and curiosity into the incident kept on increasing.
Soon, the pilot spotted a massive pile of burning tires, from which a greasy flame began coming out. Right next to the burning stack, someone had spray-painted on the snow, “APRIL FOOL.” How’s that for some fabulous fun?
