An American woman is worried she’ll never see her kids again after being trapped in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
In an interview with Fox News, the woman said she’s hiding with family members and Afghan allies. They are unable to reach Kabul airport for a chance to be evacuated.
“I really have given up hope, given up on the hope of going to the airport,” the woman, whose identity is being withheld for her safety, told Fox News. “It’s just not possible to make it through all those people.”
The woman added that there are as many as 20 Taliban checkpoints between her and the US-held airport and that she’s one of the American citizens –of which the exact number is still unknown– trapped behind enemy lines.
She revealed that she was whipped by Taliban fighters on one attempt to get through, and a man standing near her was shot in the head on another try in front of her wife and baby, leaving them in tears. Since then, the woman has been in hiding.
“We are devastated,” the unnamed woman said. “We’re scared for our lives.”
“Every moment that a car passes by, I feel like they are going to pull in and execute us,” she said. “I don’t know if I’m going to see my children again.”
The American woman said that the situation was in Afghanistan is dreadful – even hopeless, adding that she would rather commit suicide than allow the Taliban to capture her.
Despite the Taliban’s assurances to the US that Americans would be allowed to pass through the checkpoints surrounding the airport, the woman fears that showing her US passport to militants who could be members of other terror groups, including al Qaeda and ISIS.
“They’re labeled as Taliban, but who really knows?” the woman said. “They don’t have a uniform on, a proper military uniform or law enforcement, where you can recognize them. They’re all armed.”
When asked about her message for the president, she heartbreakingly said: “Please, Mr. President, please evacuate us. We need help.”
At the time of this writing, the White House did not immediately provide a response to this woman’s plea.
As of Saturday evening, the woman was hiding with her aunt, a former Afghan parliament member, her uncle, as well as an undisclosed number of contractors and children, Fox News reported.
According to the news outlet, the woman’s brother, a former military translator, and contractor who is now in the United Kingdom said at least two of his colleagues had been killed by Taliban fighters in the past two days.
Earlier this week, sourced from Fox News said that three captured Afghan National Army commanders were hanged by the Taliban in Kabul as the militants were banging on doors, seeking out people who had worked with the US and coalition forces.
“They’ve been going to a lot of homes pulling out high-ranked Afghans, law enforcement, people who worked with the US military or NATO,” the woman said.
