Alec Baldwin was seen breaking into tears after the Santa Fe tragedy in which a cinematographer was killed.
On Thursday, the popular actor, comedian, and writer fatally shot 42-year-old director of photography Halyna Hutchins while shooting a scene for his new movie Rust.
According to the early reports, Hutchins was shot by Baldwin after the veteran actor’s prop gun misfired. In the process, director Joel Souza was also wounded.
After the horrific incident, Hutchins was rushed to the University of New Mexico Hospital where she was pronounced dead just an hour later. Souza, meanwhile, reportedly remains in a stable condition.
Following the Santa Fe tragedy, the 68-year-old actor was seen collapsing and breaking into tears outside the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office where he was taken for questioning.
In one of The New Mexican photos, Baldwin is seen struggling while speaking to someone on his phone. In another picture, the actor is seen bent over with his arms resting on his knees while battling grief.
According to the latest reports, the actor was not arrested or charged with any wrongdoing following the questioning and has since been released.
Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing with the authorities determined to work out the details surrounding the prop weapon and how it was discharged. As of this writing, it is still not clear why the weapon was loaded and what type of projectile struck the cinematographer.
“The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones,” Rust Pictures LLC spokesperson said after the tragic event.
“We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation. We will be providing counseling services to everyone connected to the film as we work to process this awful event.”
